Aims and Scope
The Urban Public Economics Review is a six-monthly journal dedicated to provides a focal point for the publication of research papers in the expanding field of urban public economics. The local public economics plays its role in a particular context owing to global economics, technological changes, large conurbations, environmental problems, aging population and the transition towards a type of economy based on knowledge and the society of information. In this framework, local public economics are turning into urban public economics. Imbalance between the institutional scheme and the real territory, triggers negative effects on the social welfare that public policies are trying to secure. For a variety of reasons, linked to the development of urban settings, rural and urban public finances face increasing financial difficulties. Nevertheless, quantitatively speaking, the former one shows to have turned into just a residual problem. On the other hand, the service sector of local governments, are heading for “intermunicipality”. Thus, the exploitation of economics of scale is tried to be faced up, to get financial margins for inversion, contribute to environmental management and fight against exclusion.
The UPER welcomes all type of original empirical or theoretical papers having the problems previously mentioned as a topic. Submitted papers are evaluated by anonymour referees -external experts to the Editorial Board-. The journal will also feature brief notes, short papers, book reviews, news about doctoral thesis and miscellanous.
The Urban Public Economics Review organises and promotes the Urban Public Economics meeting which are held annually.
